Learning to Juggle – Step 2

You now know how to throw a ball from your strong hand to your weak hand. Now you need to learn to do it the other way around. If you’re just learning, it may not be as easy as it sounds.
Start out with the ball in your strong hand and throw your now-perfect throw to your weak hand. Then immediately throw it back to your strong hand. Remember that you should keep your throw at about eye height and you shouldn’t have to move the hand that is catching the ball more than a few inches. It is imperative that you get this move down because everything you build on from this point on will depend on a good throw.
I think most people end up quitting their juggling learning process at this point because they can’t make a good throw. You’re basically playing catch with yourself but you need to have near-perfect throws each time. The reason I am adding this as a separate step is because of the importance of it. You should be able to do this 100 times in a row without moving your hands more than a few inches or dropping the ball.

Learning to Juggle – Step One

Now that you have the proper equipment, you can begin your quest to be the best juggler in the world. As I mentioned in previous posts, I’m a self-taught juggler who has taught many other people how to juggle. This may not be the preferred way of learning how to juggle but it is the way I have found works for me and those people who I have taught. Hopefully, it will work for you as well.
Take one ball and put it in your dominant hand. In my case, this is my right hand so I’ll talk as if this is what you’re using as well. If not, you can just switch “right” for “left” and vice-versa. Now throw the ball up and catch it in the same hand. Keep your arm bent at the elbow and throw the ball from your hand to about the level of your eyes. Do this until you can get the throw correct 10-15 times in a row. Throw up to your eye level, let it drop and catch it a little bit above your waist.
Once you have mastered that step, you’re ready to throw to your other hand. Keep both arms bent at the elbow with your hands facing up. Gently toss the ball from your right hand to your left hand, keeping the ball at eye level. You should not have to move your left hand much to catch the ball. It should go from your right hand, up to the level of your eyes and down to your left hand.
Many people try to lift their left hand up too high to catch the ball as it is coming down. That move certainly makes it easier to catch the ball in your left hand, but it will make it hard to learn to juggle when we go to the next step. At this point, you will throw from your right, catch with your left and move the ball back to your right hand to try it again. Do this until you can make the throw perfectly 15 to 20 times in a row.
Once you can do that, you’ve just completed Step One in learning how to juggle! Congratulations!

Learning to Juggle – Getting Started

Nearly everyone has tried to juggle at one point or another. Whether it’s with apples, oranges, eggs, rocks, pencils, or anything else you happen to have laying around, it’s easy to start juggling.
But if you’re really going to start your quest to be a juggler, you should probably get some equipment. Especially because it’s really not that expensive and it will help you learn a lot more quickly than fruit that could split open or rocks that probably aren’t equal weights. On Amazon.com, you can get several types of juggling balls depending on what you’re looking for. I link to several below. As full disclosure, I would get a percentage of the sale if you purchase through my link. But you certainly don’t have to do that! You can go to Amazon.com and search for “juggling balls” if you prefer. I would prefer you do that instead of think that I am doing this only to trick you to buy something. Here are some good products:
Set of 3 JUGGLING BALLS kids childrens toys games NEW
Set of Juggling Balls – Lawn Games
World’s Best Juggling Ball Set
Each of the products above should be balanced and about equal in weight, which will help when we start getting deeper into learning how to juggle. But if you don’t want to purchase something right now, just make sure the balls you’re using are of about equal weight and preferably aren’t super bouncy where they will continue to bounce away when you drop them. You’ll spend more time chasing after dropped balls than you will practicing juggling and that won’t be worth your time.

Welcome to Learn 2 Juggle!
Welcome to Learn2Juggle.com – where you can learn to juggle just by following the steps indicated here.
I’ve been juggling for nearly 20 years. At first, the only thing I could find to teach myself was pool balls from my family’s pool table. I set up over my bed and started learning. After a few hours of practice a day for several weeks, I was not only able to juggle but to start teaching myself tricks. At the time, the Internet wasn’t publicly available so I didn’t have anyone to teach me. I just came up with an idea and tried to make it work.
The next thing I needed to do was try to find someone else who knew how to juggle. I finally found a small group of guys at my high school who had been juggling together for a few months and joined them. At that point, I bought some juggling clubs and found out the real joy of juggling – passing between several people.
Juggling with guys from high school was nice but I always wanted more people to juggle with so I started coming up with my own method of helping those around me learn to juggle. It was suggested I put my method online so others could possibly learn from it as well so here we are!
Since this is a new blog, the steps may not all be available yet but since each step should take a day or two to perfect, you should be able to keep up with my updates. Good luck
